This is a Confirmed ANC Mission!
========================

William Aumen, age 76, CW3, 23 year US Army veteran of Korea and Vietnam is to be laid to his final Hero's rest on the hallowed grounds of Arlington National Cemetery (ANC) on 31 December, 2009 at approximately 0900 hours from the ANC Administration Building.

His loving wife, Joy, has asked PGR to attend those services and we will be there -- standing tall, silent and proud for this American Hero of past wars.

William was the recipient of the Bronze Star and one of the first ever to receive the Master Explosive Ordnance Disposal Insignia. Mr. Aumen was very active in the American Legion Post 10, Manassas VA, where he served as Commander for three consecutive years.

Mission planning is underway and the plan will be published here upon completion.

I will be happy to share stories about Bill, and Luke, when we all meet on December 31. He was an extraordinary character who retired from the Army after they would not promise that he could return to Vietnam for a 4th tour if he signed on for more service. I heard him say more than once that he wished he could go over to Iraq so help out with those "God damned IEDs." He is missed at Post 10, and Veterans Day, which was also his birthday, will not be the same without him there.

I thank you all for the honor you pay to Bill and will ensure that Joy and his kids are able to read your thoughts.

We salute you , My Friend

Final Inspection

The soldier stood and faced God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now,soldier.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My Church have you been true?"
The soldier squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry guns,
Can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was tough.
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the world is awfully rough.
But, I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime.
When the bills just got too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God, forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place,
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around,
Except to calm their fears.
If you've a place for me here, Lord.
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don’t, I’ll understand.
There was a silence all around the throne,
Where the saints had often trod.
As the soldier waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now,soldier
you’ve borne your burdens well.
Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets;
you’ve done your time in Hell."
