| How about camping? Will there be some room to pitch a tent next to my bike? Labor Day in VA should be plenty warm enough to sleep under the canvas (nylon, whatever)... |

| Hate to sound petty but seems not a lot of info has been put out as to where this event actually is going to be held. Sometimes is at a fairgrounds, race track or something that has camping there. I realize planning these things is not easy but one of the first things we need is a venue. Just giving us a city name doesn't go far when a lot of us have to plan a vacation or at least a trip to the location. I know there is usually a host hotel in some cases and they give what are supposed to be good rates but I have found it is just what they call the rack rate and you can do just as good someplace else. I use www.travelhero.com and put in the city and they give you pretty much anything available and you can pick your prices. As far as RV parks and campgrounds, I checked and there are a few scattered nearby. Depends on what degree of roughing it you desire. |

I suppose I'm fairly fortunate that, other than being primary care-giver to my DAV husband, my time is my own: where he goes I go, where I go he goes! I do agree, though, that when it comes to details on the location, it's 'the sooner the better'.
Personally, I have been involved in the planning of a family reunion so large that we had to purchase a park! And even so, solidifying it all into one cohesive event had me babbling, drooling and pulling out my hair.....let that tell you I understand to a minute degree what it takes to pull it all together.
As far as choosing between the HD event and the PGR event, I don't understand where the stress is coming from, nor the 'just this side of rude' comments. From what I've seen here, most everyone has a reason they won't be able to attend whichever event, whether because of previous commitment of time and/or funds, or simply the decision of "this year PGR, next year HD".
On 9 pages of forum I have read the reason given for the GotG being held at the time and place decided. I don't know about anyone else, but I really get aggravated having to repeat myself more than once.
I may be new here...it's my first day, for pete's sake!...but I get it when someone says, "we cannot please 100% of our members 100% of the time..." There is not one single member whose time is more important than another. Shoot, I'd be happy if this thing was going to be held an hour away from here...but I'm not going to whine because it isn't!
If my husband and I can get there, we will...if not, well there's always next year...Good Lord willin' and the creeks don't rise.... |

| I've been looking through the various forum threads regarding GOTG 08, and I haven't seen anything yet about WHERE in Danville the event is going to be held - have I not looked in teh right place? Will it be a fairground, municipal park, Holiday Inn, water-treatment plant, where? And as far as accommodations are concerned, I hope to be able to park the bike at the event, spread out a sleeping bag next to it and throw a tarp over the whole thing to keep the rain off (if it rains, which it WILL do if my luck continues the way it usually does). So should I prepare for pavement, grass or mud? |

This was posted on another forum earlier today: We have recently (in the past several days) been given the necessary banking and PayPal account information that will facilitate operation of the GOTG website. I apologize for not having the website up and running. It has been at the ready for a couple of months. As you are aware the BoD has been very busy with some very serious issues. While I was frustrated at times I understand they must prioritize for the sake of the organization and the mission. As I said above we now have all the necessary account information to move forward with our online registration. The site will list all motels and campgrounds in the area. Many area motels and a couple of the campgrounds are offering us special rates. We will also list area attractions and inform you of interesting rides. As we have been planning the gathering a recurrent theme has presented itself. We will mention that when the site goes live. Please know that while you haven't seen much concerning the gathering - the Virginia Team has been working diligently. Once we have ftp access to our web space and are able to test our PayPal cart you'll be able to peruse the site, ask questions and register for the gathering. Thanks again for your understanding. We are looking foward to seeing all that can attend. Tony Turner Virginia State Captain Virginia - Home of Arlington National Cemetery Where Valor Rests
|

You'll need to talk to your State Captain Tito. I'm pretty sure plans are already underway for the '09 GoTG. Each State Captain submits if they want their state considered. It's a big undertaking. Finding a venue, coordinating food, entertainment, etc. |

My first GoTG but not my first time up in Danville. I took a ride up there in Feb with Fatback, aka EarldaPearl, and met up with Tony. He took us on a couple of great routes. Even without the foliage it was beautiful. Having grown up in the foothills of the Catskill Mountains in NY I missed riding those twisty roads. Danville promises to be beautiful with some great rides if you're so inclined. I can't wait. (Of course I'm close enough so that I don't have to.) |

I am looking forward to this year. I live almost close enough to commute on a daily basis but will more thean likely motel down. If any one would like to share a room let me know. I hope I will regain my riding status by then. I am antsy to start riding my new ride. It is in my new avitar picture of me holding my grandson. If my knee is not up to the doctors par I will be caging in my truck. Which ever, I plan on being there cause it might be the only time I will be able to make the GOTG. Two weeks from this Wednesday is my day with the Surgeon. I go under for knee reconstruction and hope I come out with a very good riding job. If not then I am looking at copying IHOP's thumb shifter or triking. Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones at the gathering. Ken |

| Might I suggest having the Gathering in Sturgis the week before the big Rally. Rooms are still affordable, it's about in the middle of the country, the riding out there is great with little traffic, Westboro is too stupid to find it, and those of us with the time can stay the extra week for the Rally. Maybe one of the big venues would allow some free camping that week in exchange for a little help with their set up or even a little security the following week. Just a thought. |

| There is a HD dealer in Danville and also for another make but perhaps no one has checked to see if they rent bikes. Obviously if there is a huge turnout there wouldn't be enough for all anyway so perhaps should check out Schwinn dealers....lol |

| Anyone one have info like what part of the city it's going to be held some detailed info would help me to plan where I will be staying and avoid the last minute rush to get rooms and a reasonable rate as it's going to be a holiday the rates will go up the closer to the date I book I might have my boss sold on letting me have the time off but without a low hotel rates I might not be able to attend |
