Wednesday June 24th at 11AM we will celebrate the life of Don Kanney at the Newbury Park First Christian Church, 803 Knollwood, Newbury Park, CA 91320.

We will escort the family to and from the services with a reception to follow at their home.

Gather at 9:30 AM at Carl's Jr. 1384 No. Moorpark Road, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360 (In the Ralph's shopping center on the corner of Moorpark and Janns roads)

Meeting at 9:45

KSU at 10 AM

Wear Baby Blue at the request of the family.

On 09 November 2008 while returning from the Lebec PGR mission Don Kanney went down at the intersection of the 405 South and the 118 West. He sustained major injuries.

Today 18 June 2009 his Daughter posted the following:

Today (17 June 2009) right before I updated the website, Dad's very cool chopper was picked up and driven away, shiny and sparkly just as Dad loved to keep it.

As I watched it drive away, I couldn't help but see Dad on the back of it with that smile he always had when he was on it and with the twinkle in his eyes that was always present when he had the wind in his face and when he was on the open road. Dad felt alive, full of joy and freedom whether he was riding to the grocery store or heading through the hills; he loved every minute on his chopper or Harley.

As Dad would have it, he left on the same day his shiny red chopper departed. Dad's last breath here was at approximately 10pm, which meant his first breath into eternity began in that very moment! Dad is at peace, in his new body and with his Savior and Eric now. Oh, what a reunion that must have been. <script></script>

Friends, as much as we wanted a miracle, we are so thankful for God's mercy on Dad and our family. We all just witnessed how strong Dad was this last month. He could have potentially lived a very long life with his brain injury, not getting to participate in life the way he loved. We will praise God forever for not letting that be Dad's last years here. We will miss him everyday, but also know that we will see him again and when we do, that big smile and bear hug will be waiting for us!!

The PGR is invited to Don’s “celebration of life” on a date TBD. We will honor him by wearing his favorite color blue (just like his baby blues (eyes) we all loved!).

To the family and friends of Don Kanney I offer my sincere condolences. It has been a roller coaster ride for family and friends the last seven months. Now he is at peace. The posts on the forum these last months have given all a glimpse into the man that Don was. He will be sorely missed by all. It is time for us to stand for Don Kanney as he would have stood for us.

Dear Erin, family and friends,
I pray our good Lord gives you strength during the upcoming difficult days. Having said that, I know you and your family have endured seven months of difficult times. I am continually amazed at your wonderful faith in our Lord. Your words have been an inspiration for me. It is very evident how much love your family and you have for your father. As well, his many friends are a testimony to what a fine character he possessed.
I remember your father from a few missions we attended as well as the Meet and Greet in Burbank; what a fine man!

A man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning to the end.
He noted that first came the date of birth 
and spoke of the following date with tears. 
But he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time that he spent alive on earth and now only those who loved him know what that little line is worth.

Don you spent your Dash wisely. I was honored to know you and will be honored to stand at your celebration of life.

Good evening everyone!

I just wanted to thank you for the emails, phone calls, visits, and texts today. We appreciate you all so much. Today has been a tad bit surreal. We've gone from a state of "fighting" to a state of "being" in our new "normal". Our last seven months have been a whirlwind and a battle and now we will begin unpacking everything we have been through together and with dad as we begin to process it all. Each "article" we "unpack" will be a memory that reveals something sad, something joyous, something heartbreaking, something peaceful and overall something to be grateful for. Yes, we can be grateful that we had dad seven months longer than if he'd lost his life on that day in November, even though it was so difficult. Yes, we can be thankful that we were taught how to fight our hardest with hearts and minds full of faith and belief. Yes, we can be thankful for the amazing people in our lives that have walked us through this. And, yes, we can be thankful that we KNOW that there is a God who loves us greatly, deeply and with compassion that never fails.

Thank you our dear friends over and over again. May you NEVER forget how much you were used so mightily during this time. May you never forget what it felt like to be part of something that was a battle of faith that ended in VICTORY! Maybe not the way the "world" views victory, but certainly a victory in the heavenlies as our beloved pops is fully healed and fully rejoicing, laughing and loving with Jesus! I bless you all with knowing that God is so pleased with the way His kids gathered and fought the good fight!

Please join us on Wednesday, June 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Newbury Park First Christian Church to celebrate dad's life. We will be gathering afterwards at mom and dad's house on Kevin Street and everyone is welcome to join us!
