I have followed this tragic story since it began unfolding here on the forum. The end causess both sadness and relief. I share the grief felt by Don's family and other loved ones; I feel relief that his struggles and pain are over.

Everything I've read here convinces me that I would have been made more complete had I known Don personally. That opportunity is now lost. But what I can do is try to live up the standards that a man like Don clearly held: honor and sacrifice for a cause greater than one's self. In that way, the essence of Don will live on.

Travel well, Don. Try to save us each a parking space...

I have a feeling that the motorcycle parking in heaven is close up...as it always is....close up to the throne of the Lord, and that Don pulled in there on that gorgeous red chopper Erinn told us about, and his brothers and sisters were waiting for him with a smile, and a hug and ready to tell all those stories of rides that took them to beautiful and far away places. And I know that heaven is filled with those perfect country roads, lined with flowers and soft meadows and towering trees full of birds who sing the Lord's praises. Ride on Don, ride on.

I Did Not Die

Do not stand at my grave and forever weep.
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and forever cry.
I am not there. I did not die.

Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Don Kanney, PGR Member. May God help you though this difficult time and sorrow.  For his unselfish dedication to the PGR and families of the fallen he will never be forgotten.

Rest Safely and Securely in God's Loving Arms, Don.

Going home, going home,
I'm just going home.
Quiet-like, slip away-
I'll be going home.
It's not far, just close by;
Jesus is the Door;
Work all done, laid aside,
Fear and grief no more.
Friends are there, waiting now.
He is waiting, too.
See His smile! See His hand!
He will lead me through.

Morning Star lights the way;
Restless dream all done;
Shadows gone, break of day,
Life has just begun.
Every tear wiped away,
Pain and sickness gone;
Wide awake there with Him!
Peace goes on and on!
Going home, going home,
I'll be going home.
See the Light! See the Sun!
I'm just going home.

American Muscle !

Riding With Respect

It is with the deepest sorrow and sadness that we the Massachusetts Patriot Guard Riders extend our sympathy to Don, "Pops", "Papa", "Dad", "Hon", "Dooneeee", "Gwamp Gwamp"s loving wife Gail , daughter Erinn and son, family and friends of California Patriot Guard Rider Brother / Member Don Kanney, Newbury Park, CA . In our eyes and in the eyes of his fellow riders , Don is a True American Patriot . A Patriot in his bedrock values and quiet virtues , they represent the very best of what it means to be a American Patriot . Dons dedication and devotion to honor and shield the families of...... Fallen American Hero's... and their families in a flag line as a Patriot Guard Rider has made a bold statement about his patriotism and we thank him. No amount of words or condolences can adequately compensate your family and friends for the deep loss they have suffered, but nonetheless we the Patriot Guard Riders extend our support and solidarity to them in this time of trial and tragedy. Don was a true patriot who loved his country so much that he joined the Patriot Guard Riders , like all riders he was prepared to sacrifice his time for Fallen American Hero's and their families of his beloved country of "The United States Of America" to make sure they received the...... Respect ......they so richly deserve. ......"If a person gives you his time, he can give you.. "no more precious gift”.. Life is precious. And with every beat of our hearts, each of us leaves an indelible impression on the world and the lives around us. As you mourn the loss Don, and celebrate his Eternal Gain, and reflect on the impact of both, know that you are strong and that you are surrounded by many who appreciate you and the impression he left. May God bless Don in death as he blessed him in life and may his light of love and devotion of duty continue to shine in our PGR Organization and Country .There is a light in this world, a healing spirit more powerful than any darkness we may encounter. We sometime lose sight of this force when there is suffering, and too much pain. Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge through the lives of ordinary people who hear a call and answer in extraordinary ways. May the American people continue to put their faith and trust in God on this Fathers Day weekend.......... Bravo Zulu Brother Patriot Guard Rider Don Kanney ........... E Pluribus Unum..............One Cause One Mission ...............RESPECT.........Standing For Those Who Stood For US . ...Standing In Spirit in Massachusetts !

Honor to the Soldier, and Sailor everywhere, who bravely bears his countrys cause. Honor also to the citizen who cares for his brother in the field, and serves, as he best can, the same cause

"Patriot Guard Riders"

Why do they come.. They don't even know him.. Yet they stand for hours.. In the cold.. In the heat.. In the rain.. In the snow.. They never ask for a thing in return.. But yet they receive so much.. Many are veterans.. Many are not.. Why do they care.. They stand in silence.. They stand with tears in their eyes.. They stand for a fallen hero.. They stand because they care.. They stand in respect.. They stand in honor.. They stand because they must.. They stand because it is their duty.. Their duty to the fallen.. Their duty to their country.. Their duty to the grieving family.. And their duty to themselves.. They are the Patriot Guard Riders.. And they will stand until someone stands for them

Don Kanney

My prayers are for the family and friends of Don. My most sincere condolences in this time of grief, no matter how prepared you are, when the final moment arrives grief sets in at the loss of our loved one. Our most powerful relief is in the knowledge that even now Don is sitting at the Throne of his Lord and Savior. May God's peace be with you all, my brothers and sisters.

By this time you have already heard these words from our Father in Heave: 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master's happiness!'
Matthew 25:22-24
Welcome Home Brother! Thank you for your service to our wonderful country. Your service and sacrifice has contributed to glory of America!
May you rest in peace my friend, my the Lord's perpetual light shine upon you. I beseech the Lord's protection and care for your family and friends during this time of grief - until the day we are all reunited in Heaven at the throne of God.

Wow my words are gone, I am sorry it has taken me so long to post, but I just didnt know how to express myself to Don's memory and his family..Today my sad heart was able to say, Don from the first time we met, you welcomed me as a friend, family member to the PGR, it was such an Honor to be on missons with you, and to meet your daughter at the Meet and Greets, sitting around with all our PGR family breaking bread,laughing and just enjoying eachother. That's the last time I saw you,it was a Great day nice sun not real hot just right, we all signed the PGR flag, to send over seas, we took a pic that day, I stood next to you, your daughter on the other side of you,your arm around her, that picture sits on my shelf I will always remember that day and you MY BROTHER DON. May your family keep the Lords Grace close to them as they walk this final path may, HE hold them tight and ease the pain and sorrow, I know you are one again body and soul as you stand next to our Father I also know you will be with us on every mission we are on,and all who loved you will be with you again in time. When it rains and the thunder rolls it's you out for a ride.
Be at PEACE Don and all who loved him..

To the family and friends of our valued PGR Member Don Kanney,

There are no words or platitudes that can temper your pain. I can’t think of anything in life that could be more painful, then the loss of a loved one.

I would, however, like to take a moment to remind you that as deep as the hole in your heart feels at this time, it will be filled over time with the wonderful times spent together.

“Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal” ~From a headstone in Ireland

Thank you Don for your service to our nations heroes. You made a difference in many lives. Rest in Peace.

My sincere condolences to the friends and family of Don Kanney. I was with him on the Lebec mission and know that he had respect for those serving us. When I returned home, I saw the tow truck picking up a motorcycle on the 118 interchange. I was deeply sadened to learn that it was Don who was in the accident. I know that he will be welcomed in heaven as he was welcomming our troops home that day.The PGR has lost a great person but we are left with the memories we have of him. Heartfelt condolences to family and friends of Don. As PGR members we all do what our hearts tell us is the right thing. We ride to honor those that have given their lives defending our freedoms. That is what Don...what all of us believe in. When I leave this earth I hope it'll be like Don...while doing the right thing. God bless you Don Kanney. I am unable to ride this mission as there are four American Heroes in Riverside that need to be honored by standing in as thier family. Don I know will understand. It's what we do...the right thing!
