Our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Elwin D. Kessler Sr. ,Thanks for being one of our greatest heroes. God Bless. And God Bless, The fellow officers that stands for us everyday.Thank you for your dedicated service and sacrifice to defend this great nation.
We salute you , My Friend
Final Inspection
The officer stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining. Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, officer. How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To My Church have you been true?" The officer squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep.... Though I worked a lot of overtime. When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord. It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don’t, I’ll understand. There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the officer waited quietly, For the judgment of his God. "Step forward now, officer you’ve borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven’s streets; you’ve done your time in Hell."

MISSION COMPLETE: It was a sweltering yet beautiful day to honor one of the State of Virginia’s ‘Men in Blue’ and America’s finest. Elwin Dennis Kessler, Sr. USCG Veteran, Virginia Master Trooper (Ret) July 10, 1947 – July 3, 2009
The PGR fielded 14 members, 10 bikes and 2 cages. The south-side contingent arrived safely in Smithfield at 1200 hrs. Ride Captain contact was then made with the Virginia State Police Honor Guard for logistical organization. The flag line was formed at 1330 as we stood with the Honor Guard to show our respect for the Kessler Family, escorted in Virginia State Trooper vehicles and arriving at 1350. It was our privilege to stand with this precision State Trooper Honor Guard as they grieved the passing of one of their own.
Once remembrance services commenced at 1400, the flag line broke down into a four person rotation at 10 minute intervals to stand the watch. At the completion of the service we reformed our flag line for the playing of Amazing Grace on bag pipe and for Taps, presented by the Virginia State Police. At 1515 hrs. the flag line then stood down while the Ride Captain and co RC offered our condolences on behalf of the Patriot Guard and presented the Kessler Family with the plaque, ride sheet and condolence book. They expressed their deep appreciation.
The mission was then debriefed and completed at 1530. This mission was accomplished in a safe manner and without incident.
My many thanks to all of our Patriot Guard members that was able to come out and pay their respects to this unselfish and true American Patriot. It was my sincere pleasure to stand the flag line with you all, on my first as Ride Captain Honor Mission.
Respectfully Submitted,
Deborah ‘1armymom’ Worrell-Rand
