My condolences and prayers to the family and friends of PFC Devon Gibbons. PFC Gibbons I am forever grateful for your service to our country. You are and will remain an American Hero. I can not find proper words to thank the Gibbons family for allowing PGR to honor PFC Gibbons and to lend support to their family at this most difficult of times.

First and foremost, I want to express my condolences to the family and friends of PFC Devon Gibbons. I also want to thank them for allowing me the honor to pay my respects to our fallen hero.

This was my first escort mission with PGR. I was not prepared for the emotional impact this mission would have on me. First we gathered and rode to the church. Our mission was to line the road in front of the church with flags. The display was impressive. I focused on presenting the flag with honor. We really did not see the family at this point. As the service neared the end, we rode to the staging area near the cemetery. Members grabbed flags to line the driveway into the cemetery. Because I was at the right place at the right time and I had a PGR banner on my windshield, I was asked to ride escort for the precession back to the cemetery. Our group of 10 – 12 bikes rode back to lead the procession. So far, so good.

When we reached the procession, that all changed. There was the Hurst and the line of cars with family and friends. We turned and took up our position in the lead and a large lump formed in my throat. It just became very real. We led the procession back and watched the well wishers that lined the road to show their respect.

When we arrived at the cemetery I was impressed with the line of flags being held by my fellow PGR members. We quickly parked in the lot next to the line and joined the line. The entire line snapped a salute as the Hurst past. As the procession passed a member of the family leaned out the window of the car and said to each of us as they passed “Thank you”. I must admit the tears flowed pretty steady at that point. The line of flags and those of us with out flags followed the procession to the grave side and formed around the group. After the grave side service the family walked around and again said “Thank you” to each of us. All I could say was “It is my honor”

I am so honored to have been allowed by the family to show my support to them during their time of loss. I always believed the mission of PGR is an important one and my experience that day really showed that to me. I went that day for the family and came back a better person for the experience.

Once again the honor we paid to this hero is nothing compared to the price he paid for all of us. I thank Devon's family for the honor of standing by during the Friday night service and the escort and honors rendered on Saturday. I think it was also a great honor for the local LEO to ask us to support them for the escort as well. To all of the PGR that were ready to stand in all that sun all afternoon if necessary - THANK YOU. It was another honor to ride/drive with you (can't do it without the cages) . I hope we kept the water coming fast enough. I know we here in the PNW aren't used to all that sun, but the breeze made it somewhat bearable. Until called upon to do it again, ride safe PGR.

Respectfully,

Today we said good-bye to a HERO.
Last night a handful of Patriot Guard Riders stood guard to honor Pfc Devon Gibbons. We spoke with Mr & Mrs Gibbons, brother David, and the Cavalry Scouts from Ft Hood who brought Devon home. They were all most gracious in thanking us. We assured them that the honor was ours.

Today we came in multitudes from across the northwest to say "Thank You" to Devon, his family, friends and community. What a great loss. Members began arriving at the staging area this morning a few hours before the service, so we sent a contingency to escort Devon from the funeral home to the church. Bikes & cages rolled in all morning, and by the time we were ready for a Ride Briefing we numbered nearly 70 bikes, many riding 2 up, and a few chase cars. In addition to the South Sound HOG, Combat Vets, United States Marine Corps Motorcycle Club, Southern Cruisers, Seattle HOG, American Legion Riders, Paladines and others (sorry if I left anyone out) our members now include a Blue Star Mother and her husband. The procession to the church was a column of bikes that stretched as far as the eye could see. Seattleritchies asked PGR's Jeff & Judy to act as Road Captains, as they are friends of the Gibbons family. We arrived at the church and lined the road outside the church with flags. After the service started we moved to the shade until it was time to head back to the cemetery where we formed a corridor of flags up through the trees. Our road guards were asked by the Port Orchard PD to assist in escorting the procession from the church to the cemetery, so they took a dozen riders back with them to ride escort.  The procession of cars seemed endless. Once they had passed we moved to the gravesite to form a ring of flags around the service.
The hardest part for me today was seeing all those kids...friends of Devon & his brothers, as they slowly came up the drive to say a final farewell to their dear friend. Devon is a HERO to everyone in that community. He is a HERO to us as well.

I just can't close this without thanking all of Patriot Guard Riders who helped make this a successful Mission. The love, caring, compassion, comradery and RESPECT of each and every one of you makes me extremely proud to stand beside you as a Patriot Guard Rider. It takes some effort to make a Mission successful, and none of us could do it without the others.

To the family and friends of Pfc Devon Gibbons: Thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing us the privilege of paying our respects to your Devon. We have all been keeping you in our prayers since April, and we are so sorry for your great loss. Your son has paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms, and there is no way we can ever repay you. We can just say, "Thank You, and may God bless you all."

With respect,
CleverLori
