THANK YOU Patriot Guard Riders.  As a former US Marine, I was not familiar with your organization until I read that the hatemonger from Kansas has targeted the Sgt. Weir Funeral.  I have posted your Preliminary Itinerary on the website http://www.hometowncleveland.com  specifically here http://hometowncleveland.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3107&st=0&#entry48531

David Weir was a student at Trewhitt where I was a teacher.  He was a terrific young man, full of zest and life.  His family is wonderful and undeserving of hateful protestors.  I hope many of you can make it to Cleveland to pay respects to this young patriot.    God Bless All of You.   Thanks again for what you do.

All the Best!

Our deepest condolences to the family of David Weir. May God grant you peace at this difficult time.

Yahoo maps estimates a 4.5 hour ride from Florence/Killen area.
KSU 0600 (CDT) departure from Killen McDonalds to make the Cleveland Tn staging area by 1130 (EDT).
That should put us traveling thru Huntsville on I-565 at 0715-0730.

Anyone is welcome to join us on the ride. Look for a brandy wine HD Road King towing a black trailer.
No planned stops until Bridgeport BP for fuel.

Subject:  Funeral Services For Sgt. David Weir

Time 1:00 PM on Monday,

This Hero and his friends and family need our support.  I know Monday is a work day, but we need to be in Cleveland, Tenn. on this day.

If you have been following the thread, you know that " Those People" plan to protest at Sgt. Weirs funeral. We need to be there in mass.

Ride with me.....I am kickstands up from TA truck stop at exit 37, I-40 at 7:30.  Traveling via the Ocoee Gourge to Cleveland.

I will not, regretably, be able to escort this Hero to his final resting place, but I feel that the most important part of our mission as a PGR will have been completed...

Again, my deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Sgt David Weir.

The Visitation went well.  There were at times 20 - 30 PGR.  Most were new members on their first mission.
They stood tall in the rain and 10 refused to stand down at 18:00 as planned when the rumor hit that the UG were
close by.  We stood until 20:30 and waited as guest to escort the family home at 21:00.
The community outpouring was tremendous.  The phone calls of support by PGR members from several states was
and is greatly appreciated.
Rest easy tonight in the Freedom bought and paid for by our Military and their sacrifice.
May God bless our troops in harms way.

I want to THANK from the bottom of my heart all the members of the Patriot Guard who came, and all of the members who give support whether by prayer, comfort or assistance. I am proud to report that the Kansas fanatics were not present. The streets were lined with flags on both sides of the road for several miles. I have been told that there are over 1000 waiting in support for the Weir family at the National Cemetary in Chattanooga. The ride captain was outstanding, and I enjoyed meeting so many of my new friends. I will be praying for the Patriot Guard and I support your mission. America is a better place because of the efforts the Patriot Guard Riders. God Bless All! JC Bowman

Just got home from the mission. As I was telling my family about the day, I had to choke back the tears. The people of the Cleveland and Chattanooga areas came out in full and strong support of Sgt. David T. Weir and his family. I hope the family can find even a small amount of comfort and strength in the appreciation these grateful communities have displayed for his ultimate sacrifice for us all. I would like to thank the owners and employees of Jack's Cleaners for allowing us to stage in their parking lot. Thanks go out to all members of the law enforcement community for the wonderful job they did today. Thanks to the fire departments for the stirring flag display from their hook & ladder trucks. Thanks to the people of Cleveland that opened their hearts to everyone. Thanks to all those that lined the overpasses and shoulders of I-75 South to show their support. Thanks to the drivers on I-75 North that stopped traffic to show their respect. Thanks to the PGR brothers and sisters that, once again, took of their time to aid another family in such a tragic time. Thanks to the family of Sgt. David T. Weir for allowing us the highest honor of escorting their son, husband, father and brother to his final heroic resting place.

I just got home from this mission, and a short stop over at the local American Legion. I want to say that without a doubt, Mike had all the details covered. He met with EVERY rider that showed I think, and was instrumental in making this mission go off without a hitch. The people that don't deserve recognition by name decided that the hostile south wasn't somewhere they wanted to show... Although they told the local media they were there. I think that just proves them not only a bunch of misguided fanatics, but a bunch of liars as well. I am sure that their God wouldn't approve!!!
It was truly the US Military Vets MC GA's privledge to honor this American Hero. I was so impressed with the turnout of Cleveland, TN. citizens, and the cooperation of the local LEO's. All of Cleveland's and Chattanooga's finest were stand-up, and went out of their way to be courteous and informative. The citizens lined ever overpass with flags and cheers as we rode under, and the show of patriotism was great! There were probably 1000 or more citizens from Chattanooga at the gates of the cemetary waving flags and saying words of thanks and support to this American Hero.
This day was about Seargent David Weir, US ARMY. It was about the celebration of his life, and the laying to rest of his body in HONOR!!!

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
I pray for God's continual blessings and comfort to his family.

TennVic, you did us all proud with your planning and leadership.

This is the Ride report for the Patriot Guard Mission to honor Sgt David Thompson Weir who gave all on September 14, 2006.

Sgt. Weir, assigned to the 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Ky. was laid to rest today, September 25, 2006, at the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

May God rest his soul and watch over his family especially his son Gavin.

Rest in Peace Sgt David Thompson Weir, you may stand down.  Thank you for your service.

Mission Accomplished

September 25, 2006.

Thanks to all of the Patriot Guard Riders that turned out Sunday and stood vigil and escorted the family home.  Thanks to the two new members that stood vigil all night with the LEO’s.

Thanks to all of the Patriot Guard Riders that stood in Honor to the family and Community today.

There were countless numbers of citizens of Cleveland and from the surrounding communities on hand today to pay their last respects.  All day they constantly thanked the PGR for being there to show their respect for Sgt Weir and family.  This is one of the most Patriotic Communities I have ever been in.

The coordination and cooperation with the LEO’s, Funeral Home staff and the local Government officials was second to none.  They were instrumental in the success of our Mission.

I really don’t know the numbers of PGR and supporters that rode with us today.  I would guess about 125 or greater.  Our guest and supporters were Rolling Thunder, CMA, U.S. Military Vets, Sons of Christ, VFW, and many others – I wish I could remember their names and thank them.

There’s no way I can express how much I owe to some people for their support.

To note a few:

Ancient1, Sarge, Dodat, Rainey and spouse (sorry couldn’t resist that), the gentleman and his two sons (new members) from Cleveland and many others actually too numerous to mention.  I had numerous phone calls of encouragement from several State and Ride Captains.  If I haven’t mentioned you by name I’m sorry but rest assured we will never forget you.

Nick Petty – Ancient1, addressed the final briefing, representing National and gave everyone encouragement.  Thanks Nick!

The father and sons from Cleveland supplied a 101st Airborne Flag, which they posted with an American Flag at the entrance for the family and guest.

Interstate 75 was almost totally shutdown to traffic on both Southbound, our direction by LEO’s, and Northbound by Patriotic Citizens, truckdrivers, motorhomes, delivertrucks and passenger vehicles.  EVERY overpass on the ~40 trip mile had Flags and people saluting or hands over hearts.

The LEO’s in Cleveland, Bradley County, Hamilton County, Chattanooga and Tennessee State Troopers as best they could gave I75 South, I24 West and all roads in between from Cleveland to the National Cemetery to the Funeral procession,

God Bless America

I would like to add this to the Ride Report:
Since I joined the PGR I have stood in the cold, hot, rain and dry and have never been more proud.  I really don't know how to say how much I appreciate being a member of this organization.  I take pride explaining to people who ask "What is the Patriot Guard".
Some people just can't comprehend why we do what we do for someone we have never met and then tell them "Its not about us, Its about the family and the fallen".
There was a comment made to me today - "Bet your glad its not raining".  I humbly answered back "My Brothers and Sisters stood at vigil in the rain yesterday".  The man cried.
Thank you PGR Brothers and Sisters for who and what you are and stand for.
Thank you Founding members and the Legion Riders who started the concept for giving thousands the healing they have needed for so long.
Talking to several Club members today I realized that the Patriot Guard has become a force that has brought people together to stand on Hallowed Ground with no territories.

Sgt. Weir, I salute you and thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for the freedom you and your brothers and sisters, who are serving the nation, have given to me and my family.  Words will never adequately express my profound respect and gratitude.

To the Weir family, I offer you my most sincere and heart-felt condolences on your loss.  David was, by all reports, an exemplary young man and a true American hero.  We will all miss him.

To my fellow PGR members and to free men and women, everywhere, remember what the wise man said:

"All that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to stand by and do nothing."

David Weir did not just stand by and watch.  He was, and others like him are, the reason why good will always triumph over evil.

This was my first mission, I was honored to be at the Memorial service on Wednesday night last week, for Sgt. Weir.  I was honored to be there on Sunday as we stood guard and flew the colors.  Then again today for the service.  As I stood proud with the other PGR members.  To see so many standing there with their salutes and the others with their hands placed over their hearts.  So many with the flags standing so proudly.  As the service men stood with us the ones serving now and the ones retired.  To the firefighters to all of the LOE's.  From the youngest to the oldest patriot that was from here in Cleveland all the way to the ones that was at the cemetery in Chattanooga.  No matter how far you may have come.  It was a true blessing to me to see you standing there.  For those that went a head of the family to those that road in the procession.  Yes this was my first Mission but it won't be my last.  May God be with all of you, keep you safe.
Until we meet again.
