Hi there, Don Bright, and I'm also sending a copy to Kevin because you seem
to have your finger on the pulse here, and in case Don is on vacation this
holiday weekend and doesn't have computer access.

I'm Maggie45, a member since January of this year, and am very honored and
very grateful to be so. My Dad died yesterday. It was actually a blessing
since he had been ill off and on for a while now, and was in and out of
dementia. He was a WWII vet, a medic in the Burma Theatre, and was in the
Army of Occupation in Japan after the war. He then was stationed at
Letterman Hospital(originally Letterman Army, then Letterman General) on the
Presidio of San Francisco until he retired in 1963 or 64 as a MSgt. That's
where I grew up. For the last few weeks he's been living entirely in the
period when he and my Mom first met and fell in love, Ft Meyer, Va. She was
the love of his life for 60 plus years. My Mom was an Army nurse at Walter
Reed during the first part of the war. My Mom is also very ill, in fact
almost completely incapacitated by a bad fall several months ago, and is
also in and out of dementia. It is going to take a huge effort to get her to
the funeral, and she is determined to go.It will most likely be in an
ambulance. My four siblings and I know she will be following my Dad very
shortly. What I'm asking for is not a formal mission, because it's a busy
weekend and I know everyone's got plans, but only if there are any guys and
gals in or around Hazleton, Pa this coming Monday morning , Jul 3, at 9:15
or so, who would kindly come and stand outside the Church with flags. I've
discussed it with my siblings and they all think my Mom would be thrilled,
so I said I would ask. The church is St Gabriel's at 122 S. Wyoming St,
Hazleton. The funeral starts at 9:30. We are having a private viewing at
Boyle's Funeral Home, 100 S. Wyoming St at 8am, and an open viewing at 8:30
to approx 9:30. There won't be many people since all their friends and
siblings have already passed, with the exception of one of my Mom's sisters.

I am in southeastern Arizona and will be leaving here about 2am to drive up
to Phoenix to catch a plane at 8am, then will be on one flight or another
til 8pm, landing in Newark. My cell phone is 520-456-7361. My real name is
Mary-Margaret, but I also go by Maggie for my PGR friends. I've only been
able to attend two missions because of work obligations, and the experience
is like no other. I have seen SO MUCH healing for the Vietnam Vets
attending. I'm a cager, but no one seems to mind. In fact I can carry more
flags that way, although none are needed with Hardbite as our state captain.
What a guy. Anyway, if you could just give some thought to this I'd really
appreciate it. God bless you, and God bless the PGR and all it's members.

Regards,
Maggie45

Maggie,

From my family to yours our condolences on your loss.  Just wanted to thank your father for his service to his country.  He was definately a part of the "Greatest Generation".  His service will not be forgotten.  I'm from Scranton and sorely wish I could be there to honor your father.  I will be there in spirit as I'll be honoring one of your father's fellow WWII vets here in Virginia Beach.  God Bless to you and your family.

HERO
Hero, we honor thee,
keeping safe your memory

I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Maggie,
My prayers are with you and your family. It is such a gift to have the ability to share this time with your family. My father was a WWII vet in the South Pacific. He took hs placein Paradise in 86. Upon his recovery from a near fatal heart attack in 76, he expressed his frustration with those who "saved him." "I will never be afraid to die again. You should have left me go. It was beautiful there."
Unfortunately, I must work on Monday. I am sorry I cannot make this mission. This hero deserves the most we can offer. If I can do anything for you on Tuesday, my day is yours. I live near Stroudsburg.

I will be heading into Pa for this mission for one of our own. Since I am coming from all the way in the north I am going to cut across to Rt 80 just before the Gap. The following is my itinerary.
Leaving from Vernon area at 0600 and heading straight out Rt 94 to Rt 80.

0745 Depart from Mcdonald's parking lot---Off of exit 4 westbound Rt 80. (Exit Rt 80 at exit 4 bear right and cross over Rt 94 onto Simpson Rd., stay right and follow to Mcdonald's on the right.)

0845 Arrive at the "New Blue Comet Diner" #45 Wilkes Barre-Hazleton Hwy (Rt 309). Couple of blocks from Church.

0900 Depart Diner and head over to Church for 0905 arrival.

Liz (Ms Uncle Buck) will be coming up from the south (see her previous post for times and contact). she will lead the south riders up to meet us at the diner.

Liz, Luke is in Limerick, so it Looks Like a Limerick Link is Likely for Luke, Lutz and Liz.  Is there a place on NE Ext. that one of you knows (I rarely ride that way) where we can Link up?

Lutz,

If you can get on the NE Ext without coming to Limerick, I'd say don't go out of your way just to meet up.  We can meet somewhere near exit 44 (route 663) and ride up together.  Limerick is off the beaten path on the way to Hazleton.

Also, the forecast is calling for scattered thunderstorms in the morning and I've never ridden in the rain.

Sorry this is last minute folks....
I have been at meetings all weekend and just spoke with Don yesterday.

PA PGR in  Region 3 and 4 have been emailed:

Rally Point will be 8:30 AM in the Wendy's parking lot on 309 South in Hazleton. Park bike at Wendy's and we will be across the street having coffee at the Blue Comet Diner.
PLEASE bring your flags, we will be lining the entrance to the church and it's a BIG church!
Maggie HAS NOT requested an escort beyond the church as of last night when I spoke with her, so this will be a Flag gathering only.

We are parking in the Wendy's Parking lot because they are NOT open that early and we need the space. Chris from the Blue Comet will NOT allow us to take up the small lot he has at the diner.

I will be at the Comet at 8:00AM!

Thanks in advance!

I know there is a rest stop before the Lehigh Valley Tunnel, and one a few miles after the tunnel. I would like to stop at the one before the tunnel. I think 0600hrs ( 6:00am ) would be a good time because of the weather is calling for some rain in that area in the morning.

Unfortnately I didn't see this until 0530. The Lehigh Tunnel is at least an hour from here, if not more, and that if I were ready to go. Hazleton is less than two hours from here, I had planned to head out at 0600 which would have given me 40 extra minutes to play with.

Lukester had already scratched (for very good reason), so when I saw I had missed you (liz) by an hour, I had to scratch too. I feel very badly about this, but it can happen when planning time is short. I hope you were not inconvenienced.

Hoping that all goes well for the rest.
