The Patriot Guard Riders have been invited by the family to honor SGT Justin Duffy, US Army, who sacrificed his life in Iraq defending our freedom. Sgt Duffy was laid to rest at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Illinois on June 12, 2009.  Justin Duffy moved with his family to Cozad when he was in sixth grade. Justin joined the Army in June of 2007 and was promoted to Sergeant in March of 2009. Sergeant Justin Duffy died in Baghdad after the Humvee he was driving hit an improvised explosive device shortly after 1pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2009.

 

STAGING DATE:  Sunday July 12, 2009

STAGING LOCATION: Rodeway Inn, 809 S. Meridian. NW of I-80 Exit 222 & HWY 21 308-784-4900. There is a Burger King and Cenex Gas station in the same parking area.

DoD Identifies Army Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Sgt. Justin J. Duffy, 31, of Cozad, Neb., died June 2 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.  He was assigned the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Thank you, SGT Justin J. Duffy for your service to this Nation. Individuals like you put your life on the line and sacrifice your lives for our freedoms. And it breaks my heart. I pray each day that the Lord our God will provide each and every one of our soldiers an Angel to watch over and protect them. It is the soldier that gives us freedom, not the politicians. Only two people ever died for our freedoms. One was Jesus Christ and the other was the American Soldier. The least I can do is pay homage and respect to this Hero and his family.
To the family of this American Hero: We as a nation grieve with you in your loss. His adherence to “Duty to God and Country” will not be forgotten. Death is a time to rejoice in the life someone had and the lives they touched on this earth. Life is but a blink of an eye. May the Great Architect take this Hero and his family into his council, protect and heal them.

There are no words or platitudes that can temper your pain. I can’t think of anything in life that could be more painful, then the loss of a loved one, especially a son.

We send our most sincere sympathy's to his family along with the message that our True American Hero Justin Duffy will live on in our hearts for eternity. He will not be forgotten. He gave his life so we could live ours.

Justin will take his final journey home to Moline Illinois for his services with his final resting place of Honor being the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island Illinois.
