The Units Command has invited the PGR to form two rows of motorcycles wherein the returning troops will deplane and walk about 300 feet between us into a hangar where they will be reunited with their families.
Staging Information up-Date Address: 3280 Airflite Way, Long Beach, CA 90807-5312. Click here for Map! Staging: We will stage on the side of Wardlow Road just past the Boeing C-17 building (pointing east) Time: 0630 - 0645. (we would like to be lined up and ready by 0700). KSU: About 0700
1st A/C scheduled in at 0730 and the 2nd at 0925).
R/C: Hooter
We will only ride about 1/4 of a mile from the staging area onto the tarmac, where we will park two rows of bikes to form a "gauntlet" that the troops will walk through from the plane into the hangar. As the US Army seems to constantly change things, once staged on Wardlow Road, we will await our Airport Operations and Airport Police escort onto the tarmac.
Here are the driving directions:
405 Southbound
<script></script>
- From the 405 Southbound, take the Cherry/Spring St exit.
- Merge right onto E. Spring St
- Turn right on Cherry Ave
- Follow Cherry Ave to Wardlow (approx 1.2 miles from 405)
- Turn Right on Wardlow Road to the staging area just past the Boeing C-17 hangar.
405 Northbound
- From the 405 Northbound, take the Cherry exit.
- Turn right onto Cherry and head North approximate .7 mile
- At Wardlow, turn right
This mission involves an aircraft arrival. Arrival times can change at the last minute so please check this thread for the staging time.
You do not have to be a Veteran or a motorcycle rider to attend this mission. Everyone is welcome. We encourage those who do not ride to attend in your car. If this will be your first mission go to the staging area and you will be briefed there. Dress for motorcycle riding or dress casually if you are driving a cage (car).
Please monitor this thread by checking the "Email me when someone replies to this thread." bug and you will receive an email if there are any updates. Please ride/drive safely.

Up-date
It appears that there will be media and quite a few dignitaries at this event. Members of the returning unit will be receiving some awards, during a ceremony at the Hangar. Some of which will be a Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and an Army Achievement Medal. All of which say quite abot about the great job, hard work and heroism that these men and women performed!
This will be quite a welcome home! |

Post Mission Update
We had about 12 PGR bikes/members and about 14 Blue Knights show up. We proceeded onto the Tarmac where the PGR lined up on the left and the Blue Knights limed up on the right forming two rows of bikes for the soldiers to walk through.
The first aircraft arrived at 0730 and the men and women disembarked to the waiting arms of their loved ones.
After this about 6 PGR members had to leave to make the KIA mission in Glendale. We reformed our line making a single file line with our bikes for the second aircraft arrival. At 1015 the second aircraft arrived, and all where there to greet them as the deplaned.
This was a great mission, and hart warming in the midst of the knowledge that the PGR was actively and simultaneously dealing with Three Fallen Soldiers in Southern California.
Well done PGR and Thank You!!! |
