According to the Montana State Captain "The family has asked us to respect their wishes for a small family service."

We will honor Cpl. Baucus by respecting his family's wishes, and offering our own silent prayers and thoughts to the family in hopes that they will find comfort in knowing that we share in their grief at the passing of another true American Hero.

Thank you Cpl. Baucus for your sacrifices on behalf of our Country.

We WEREN'T there, and I hope it wasn't simply because everyone was too damn busy riding to South dakota to drink ***** beer.

Cool your jets a bit there, Art.  We weren't there at the request of the family - see BonRu's post above.  Sure we should have been, in hindsight, but remember "Our main mission is to attend the funeral services of fallen American heroes as invited guests of the family. "

The last thing we would want to do, IMHO, is intrude when we've been asked otherwise by the family.  No matter the good intentions, that would be disastrous both to us and to the family's peace.

Incidentally, it's interesting that you just signed up and have exactly one post, the one above.  Been lurking for a while, or inspired to join by what happened at the service?  Or maybe just trying to incite something?  I sincerely hope it isn't the latter, and my humble apologies if that isn't the case...

I am grateful for the service to country this young hero provided. I am saddend that the sacrifice must continue to be laid on the "alter of freedom". However, freedom was never easy or cheap. May the family's bereavement be relieved soon.

Rest in peace.

My deepest sympathies to the Senator Baucus family and Cpl. Phillip E. Baucus' bride. Is a tragic loss and really hits home when it is a young man or woman who is CLOSE to home (in Montana & Wyo 'close to home' is a large area...). May God  bring peace to the hearts of the family and know their son/husband is looked upon with grace and mercy. Bless this American hero.
