Major Clarence ‘Bill’ George was a native of Oregon, born in 1956. He joined the Army in 1975 in Portland, OR. He served 2 years as an inventory clerk and earned an ROTC scholarship while on active duty. He returned to college to complete undergraduate studies and was commissioned 2 years later. Major George served in Germany and other European assignments, managing Air Defense systems along the border. They served our country honorably for 22 years, receiving the following awards and decorations.
Major George was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal x3, the Army Commendation Medal x3, the Military Outstanding Voluntary Service Medal, the Army Achievement Medal x2, the Army Superior Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal, x2, the Army Service Ribbon, Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon x3, and the Air Assault Badge.
Retiring from the Army, Major George became the business manager for Devry University tell it closed in 2015. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he also met his life partner of 45 years. They raised 6 children, helped with 8 grandchildren, and were very active in their community even while on active duty. He was known for a dry sense of humor and his love for his family and friends. He loved the outdoors, fishing, and hunting, whether he caught or shot anything.
