The family of Colonel Darrell William Katz, 86, has requested the Patriot Guard Riders presence as they show their final respects and lay their loved one to rest. Darrell faithfully served his country in the U.S. Army/U.S. Army Reserves performing duties as a Special Forces Officer/ Aviation Officer/ Infantry Officer/ Radio Operator/ and an Artillery Communications Specialist while assigned to the United States Special Operations Command while serving for 39 years and 9 months.
Upon completion of his service Darrell received an Honorable Discharge and during his time in service was awarded the Silver Star, Defense Superior Service Star W/1 OLC, Legion of Merit W/2 OLC, Bronze Star Medal W/1 OLC, Purple Heart, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Army Commendation Medal W/1 OLC, Presidential Unit Citation Award, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Good Conduct medal (2nd Award), Army of Occupation Medal, National defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Aviator badge, Combat Infantryman Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Special Forces Tab, Republic of Vietnam Civil Aviation Award, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation W/ Palm, Overseas Service bar, and the Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon.
