Colonel James “Jim” Highfill proudly served his country in the United States Army. He honorably served as a Battlefield Support Engineer and in Nuclear Weapons Research. During his service Jim earned the Army Commendation Medal (3dr OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1st OLC), Republic of Vietnam Engineer Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Device, Legion of Merit (1st OLC), Overseas Service Bars (2), Republic of Vietnam Training Service Medal (1st Class), Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation w/Palm, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon (4). After retiring from the Army and being Honorably Discharged Jim taught Engineering Management at UMR for 20yrs. He served as a lay minister, was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and assisted at the Learning Center.
