Electronics Technician Seaman (E-3) Donald Dowlin Witt served honorably in the US Navy for 4 years active duty during the Korean War, including 3 years sea service. He was trained as a Teletype Repairman. Seaman Witt also served in the US Navy Reserve for 2 years, 4 months and 28 days for a total of 6 years, 4 months and 28 days.
ETSN Witt served aboard the USS Estes (AGC-12), a command post for the amphibious forces commander and landing force commander during large-scale operations. Between January and May 1954, it sailed for atomic weapons tests at Eniwetok Proving Grounds, Marshall Islands. In winter of 1954, Seaman Donald D. Witt participated in Operation Castle, an atomic test at Eniwetok Proving Grounds.
ETSN Witt was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. At the time of discharge he was recommended for the Good Conduct Medal.
