Veteran Staley proudly and honorably served in the United States Navy from October 1963 until October 1967, including 17 months overseas in the Vietnam War and time at sea on the USS Oklahoma City (CLG-5, a Galveston-class guided missile cruiser). He also served a reserve obligation until October 1969. Veteran Staley served as a Boatswain’s Mate, earned the rank of Seaman (SN) and received commendations including the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.
