Robert J. Diehl began his military career by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps and dedicated four years, including two tours in Vietnam, attaining the rank of E5 while working on the A6 Intruder. Continuing his commitment to service, Robert then enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving another four years, four months and finding great satisfaction in his work with electronics and missile guidance. Throughout his distinguished career, he earned several commendations, including the Good Conduct Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Commendation Medal with a 60-device, Vietnam National Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal (twice), and M-14 Marksman designation.
