Joe proudly served in the United States Army until 1976, soon after Joe enlisted in the National Guard. In 1980, while serving in the National Guard he was recruited to serve at the Santa Fe Prison Riots. Joe managed Big-O Tire Company for many years and went on to manage York Tire until his retirement. After retirement he worked at Burns Hardware for many years. Joe had an ear for music and love for Tejano music. In 1992, Joe managed a local band, Third Generation. In 1995 he took the band to the Tejano Music Awards in Albuquerque, NM where they won an award for the best Cumbia. His most precious time was spent with his great-grandson Zayn Michael, they were two peas in a pod.
